Faith is to believe in something you can not see. Reason is the use of the mind and science to understand the world. Aquinas wanted to combine the two so that all people could live in harmony and believe the same thing.
Katri, you are correct! He wanted to harmonize faith and reason, so that is part of the reason why he created the Five Proofs. However, when you say that Aquinas wanted people to "believe the same thing", do you mean that he wanted everybody to become a Christian?
No Im saying that he wanted all christians to believe in one set of rules. Thus the creation of the five proofs.
